I am a licensed clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, and certified sexuality therapist with over thirty-five years of experience, specializing in areas such as male and female sexual health, ob/gyn
related issues, e.g. infertility, pregnancy/newborn loss, PMS, PMDD,
menopause. In addition, I work with LGBTQ clients, adult survivors
of childhood sexual abuse and cancer patients including previvors,
survivors, and caregivers. Interwoven throughout are emotional factors
such as grief, depression, anxiety and PTSD.
My work with couples focuses on helping create intimacy both in and
out of the bedroom, improving communication, boundaries, respect and
trust, and promoting growth for each individual, as well as the couple relationship. I see gay and lesbian individuals and couples, as well as heterosexual clients, and have worked with a great many blended families.
My work with LGBTQ clients includes sexual orientation, sexual identity, coming out and other related issues.
I previously led a couples' support group for dealing with infertility,
a women’s therapy group, and mixed gender therapy groups. I am not currently running any groups.
Due to the dual focus on the individual and
couple, I am experienced and knowledgeable about dynamics which impact
the functioning of both.
I utilize concepts from multiple "theories" of psychotherapy, depending
upon what best meets the needs of each client. My style is direct, yet
nurturing and relaxed, and I seek
to provide a safe and supportive environment in which clients can speak openly and comfortably about personal and sometimes difficult to discuss
subjects without fear of
negative judgment. When appropriate, I am fond of using humor to
increase the comfort level
for these conversations.
I am a licensed clinical social worker, licensed marriage and family therapist and am certified by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) as a sexuality therapist. I am a member of AASECT, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and Relational Therapists of Dallas. I hold a diplomate in clinical social work through the National Association of Social Work (NASW), and have been trained and certified in clinical hypnosis, family mediation and collaborative law. Prior to obtaining my license as a marriage and family therapist, I attended and received certification for two years of post-graduate training in marriage and family therapy at Southwest Family Institute in Dallas, Texas.
I have lectured to both mental health professionals and the general public on a wide variety of mental health topics, as well as held workshops for and given in-service training to mental health professionals. Pursuing my interest in helping couples deal with gender differences, I was formerly affiliated with John Gray, Ph.D., author of “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”. I hosted a radio talk show, “Family Values”, which included interviews with guests such as Dr. Gray and Rob Becker, creator and star of “Defending the Caveman“, a one-man comedy show focusing on gender differences. I bring a great deal of experience from a variety of different sources to my work.
I am the author of the book, Loving Courageously: First Me, Then You, Now Us, available on Amazon in Audible, Kindle and softcover.
